BMC2026:
77th British Mathematical Colloquium

30th Mar - 2nd Apr, 2026, Cardiff University

The workshop will take place at the Cardiff University School of Mathematics. It is located in the Abacws building in the city centre of Cardiff. Below you can find some information on how to get here, both from within the UK and from abroad.

Within the UK:

The most common way to get to Cardiff from within the UK is taking a train to the Cardiff Central rail station. From there, you can take a taxi to the School of Mathematics (circa 10 minutes) or, weather permitting, take a 25-30 minute walk through the city centre:

The Cathays rail station is just outside the School building, but it is only served by local trains. Taking a local train to Cathays from Cardiff Central is an alternative to taking the taxi or walking.

Another way to get to Cardiff by is coach. National Express coaches stop at the central Sophia Gardens coach station or at the Cardiff University bus stop, the latter being within walking distance from the School.

Residents of Scotland or Northern Ireland should also consider taking a flight from e.g. Edinburgh or Belfast to the Cardiff Aiport (CWL).

From abroad:

The following three airports are most commonly used to get to Cardiff:
  1. Cardiff Airport (CWL): This is the airport closest to Cardiff, 12 miles away from the city centre. It is small and serves a limited number of airlines. These include two daily KLM flights to/from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), so it is possible to fly here from anywhere in the world provided you are happy to fly KLM/Air France.

From the Cardiff Airport, you can take the 304 bus to Cardiff city centre. These leave hourly, cost £3 one-way, and the journey takes 1 hour 20 minutes. A taxi/Uber from the Cardiff Airport to the Cardiff city centre costs £30-40 and takes about 30 minutes.

  2. Bristol Airport (BRS): A medium-sized airport 45 miles away from Cardiff. It serves both low-cost (EasyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, etc) and major airlines. From the Bristol aiport you can take a National Express coach or a FlixBus coach to the Sophia Gardens Coach Station in Cardiff city centre (£15-20 one way). Alternatively, you can take the Airport Flyer, a local shuttle bus, to the Bristol Temple Meads rail station, and then a train to Cardiff Central train station (£17-22 one way). The journey takes approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. A taxi/Uber from Bristol Airport to Cardiff city centre costs £90-100 and takes about 1 hour.

  3. London Heathrow airport (LHR): The largest national airport 138 miles away from Cardiff. It serves all the major airlines. From London Heathrow you can take a direct National Express coach to the Sophia Gardens Coach Station in Cardiff city centre (£30-40 one way). The journey takes approx. 3.5 hours. You can also take the London Underground, the Elizabeth Line, or the Heathrow Express to the London Paddington train station, and then a train to Cardiff Central. A taxi from London Heathrow to Cardiff city centre is not recommended.
