professional bio

My PhD research (Cambridge University) was in the field of physics, and I have spent more than 25 years in industrial research for large companies. I am a specialist in scientific instrument design and computer control. As a post-doctoral researcher at Stanford University, I worked on the design and construction of laser systems for high resolution spectroscopy. In my early career I worked on solar cell technology, and in the design and construction of automated instruments involving real-time process control computer programming for use in exploration research for the oil industry.

Working for BOC Edwards, and before joining Stanly Associates, I was responsible for accelerated challenge testing of capital equipment for use in the microelectronics industry. I managed the design and construction of several computer automated chemical test laboratories, utilising advanced computer-controlled test procedures and data acquisition techniques.

I am a member of the UK Institute of Physics and the Royal Spanish Society of Physics. I am a past member of the American Institute of Physics, the Optical Society of America, the American Vacuum Society and the Institute of Electrical Engineers.
