THE STONE ROUNDELS IN THE FLOOR OF CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL

by Valerie Martin

Diagram of mosaic (in words)

The stone roundels in the floor of the venerable church are set around a cosmogram of Opus Alexandrinum mosaic, similar in type to that described by Josef Heinsch in Fenris-Wolf’s Heinsch Paper The Xanten Cosmographic Mosaic (available thru IGR @ 35p incl. of post).  Heinsch believed the cosmogram in the Rhineland cathedral to be a geomantic representation of the area around the holy site.  That at Canterbury, complete with swastikas and other masonic geometries, has yet to be analyzed.  The Pagan connotations of the roundels about the mosaic at Canterbury are obvious.

A plan and photographs of the roundels can be seen online. – MB, March 2016
