Graph 1: Simulation of skirting

Large points of varying sizes were placed randomly (by hand) over the graph paper.  20 random points (×), derived from random number tables, were then superimposed. 

Connecting lines between crosses were inserted whenever such a line passed through some part of one or more of the large sites. 

‘Skirting’ can be seen to be a regular feature.
