Nick's batting "achievements"

a. Typical fast bowler - never took batting seriously

b. Once referred to by the skipper as "the best number 11 in the London hospitals" after a score of nought not out over an hour to get a draw for Westminster Hospital in 1969

c. One year got a batting average in double figures when Corringham skipper Ken Baggott insisted on sending Nick in at number 5 that year - still didn't regard batting as a sensible way to pass the time!

d. Nick's most idiosyncratic and bizarre batting record - number 11 in a Corringham team that totalled about 31-32 runs. Seven of the team got ducks, including numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10. Nick, at number 11, got 21 not out, largely by dint of sheer anger at a pathetic batting performance on a good pitch.
