About myself
I come originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where I studied at the Royal Grammar School. I went on to do a degree at Peterhouse, Cambridge, in Biochemistry, but have since switched to doing Information Technology, where you don't run the risk of killing yourself with radioactivity, cyanide, neurotoxins and other such fun materials. I find computers much more friendly in that you can't accidentally drop them on the ground, and don't have to have your life cycle regulated by that of Escherichia coli*, which has a peculiar prediliction for needing to be taken out of the incubator at 3 o'clock in the morning.
After Cambridge I did an M.Sc. at Aston University in Birmingham, which included a project in Genetic Programming. Being a glutton for punishment, I then went on to do a Ph.D. in Machine Vision at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. ("Trust me; I've got a doctorate.") I then spent fifteen years living in the big bad megalopolis, working as a software engineer in interactive TV before moving to Berlin, where I live now.
If you'd like to find me, I can be found at the moment here. Or you can visit my blog, though there's normally more activity on my friends'. (Nah, who am I kidding? Almost everyone deserted the blogosphere for Facebook years ago.)
