Sir,—In the Sunday Times “Omega” inquires as to the origin of Cold Harbour as a frequent place name. In ancient legal documents, expressed in Norman French, wooded properties or belts of trees were referred to as the “côl d’arbre,” from which the English equivalent is easily derived.
