“Hunger” place names #2 (W.D. Beal)

I do not pretend to be able to derive the word “Hunger” in this connection, but it may interest your correspondent to know that, leading out of Towngate Street in Poole (Dorset), there is one old street named “Hunger Hill,” while another is “Dear Hay Lane;” both names have always sounded suggestive to me of hard times experienced by Poole citizens of a former age.
