EARLY BRITISH TRACKWAYS (The Watkins Meter Co., Hereford. 4s. 6d. net).—Archæologists and naturalists will be deeply interested in this work of Mr. Alfred Watkins, which provides a new objective for their studies and also for those of field ramblers generally and Scout Masters. The author propounds a discovery of wide scope. It not only reveals for the first time a systematic planning of pre-historic trackways, but throws a flood of light on the evolution of defensive camps, of the sites of castles and churches, and on the meaning of place names. Accompanying the letterpress are about three dozen excellent photographs. Applying the deductions to Kent, some wonderfully interesting information will undoubtedly be forthcoming.
